Cafecito With Disney Television Animation

LatinX in Animation seeks the representation of our community from page to post -- and this roundtable discussion with Disney Television Animation gets right into it! Featuring Producer Pilar Flynn (Elena of Avalor, Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur), Story Editor Joanna Hausmann (Hansel & Gretel), Executive Director of Current Series Edward Mejia, and Director of Development Alfredo Marun, we'll take a comprehensive look at the pipeline and different dynamics engaged in animation, including production, development, character design, and writing.

Pilar Flynn
is an Emmy-nominated producer on Disney/Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur as well as on Disney’s Elena of Avalor, which follows Disney’s first princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore. She began her animation career at DreamWorks as co-producer of the short “First Flight”, and worked on the production of films like The Road to El Dorado, Sinbad, Spirit, Madagascar and Flushed Away. She served as associate producer of Mean Margaret and Astro Boy. Most recently co-produced the groundbreaking R-rated animated feature Sausage Party, starring Seth Rogen.

Joanna Hausmann is a Venezuelan-American writer and actor who gained popularity through her videos on YouTube which discuss biculturalism, current events, and challenge Hispanic stereotypes. She was the head writer of Univision’s platform “Flama”. She voiced an alien on the Disney series, Milo Murphy’s Law, and is a cast member of the upcoming CBS animated series Harper House. She has written for shows for networks such as CBS and TruTV and is now the story editor of Disney's upcoming comedy, Hamster & Gretel.


Edward Mejia
is Executive Director of Current Series for Disney TV Animation where he oversees multiple shows for Disney Channels and Disney+, including the Emmy Award-winning Mickey Mouse cartoons, DuckTales reboot, and the upcoming Monsters at Work series. A 16-year Disney veteran, he also developed pilots for fan-favorite shows Star vs. The Forces of Evil and Wander Over Yonder. He is an alumnus of USC School of Cinematic Art and was born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles.


Alfredo Marun 
is Director of Development for Disney Television Animation. Prior to Disney, Alfredo worked at Dreamworks Animation Television developing series for streaming platforms (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and others) including Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts series. With over ten years of experience in entertainment, both in live action and animation, Alfredo is always looking for unique and authentic stories that haven’t been told before that push the envelope.
