LALIFF 2022 brings three competitive categories: Live Action Shorts, Animated Shorts and Episodic Series.

Episodic Series

A jury of three judges will select the FX Networks Award for Best Episodic Series.

GIANCARLO NASI

Film producer, political scientist, and intellectual property lawyer. Founder and President of the Chilean Academy of Cinematic Arts, and a university professor at various film schools in Chile and abroad. Specialized in international co-productions, working with over 17 countries in more than 15 films, through his company Quijote Films in Chile. Advisor and panelist in some of the most prominent festivals worldwide, such as Rotterdam Lab, Sundance CoLab, and SXSW.

Among his films stand out Land and Shade by César Acevedo, winner of the Camera d’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival, Oblivion Verses by Alireza Khatami, premiered in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival where it won the Lion for Best Screenplay, Lina from Lima by María Paz González, part of the Discovery Section of the Toronto Film Festival, and White on White by Theo Court, winner of the Lion for Best Director in the Venice Film Festival.

ILANA PEÑA

Creator, showrunner, executive producer, and director of the critically-acclaimed "Diary of a Future President", on Disney+. The two-season series won Best Latinx Show from the Latino Media Awards in 2021, and was nominated for a GLAAD Award in 2021 and 2022. Ilana directed episode 209 of "Diary" as well as an episode of the upcoming comedy "Gordita Chronicles", on HBOMax. She was named a 2020 recipient of Forbes 30 Under 30: Hollywood and Entertainment, and honored in Variety's 2021 Inclusion Impact Report. She served as a writer on the critically-acclaimed series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" on CW, where she wrote and produced multiple episodes, contributed song lyrics, and was featured both onscreen and on the soundtrack. Ilana is continuing to develop projects through her overall deal at CBS Television Studios in addition to writing features for Universal Studios and Disney+.

MOISÉS ZAMORA

Award-winning Mexican-American writer and filmmaker, Moisés is the creator, executive producer and co-showrunner of "Selena: The Series" on Netflix. He’s currently developing a limited series for HBO Max about the tragic murder of Vanessa Guillén and her sister’s heroic campaign for legislative change. Earlier in his career he was the recipient of the Binational Literary Prize for Young Novel Border of Words for his coming-of-age novel written in Spanish. A graduate of Brown University, he was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eleven. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
